About Us

Introduction

The Northeast Aboriginal Business & Wellness Centre is a not-for-profit society that was founded in 2002 as a result of collaboration between BC Treaty 8 First Nations and industry executives that jointly determined the need for an Aboriginal business centre in Fort St. John, BC.

The purpose of the society is to provide business support and advisory services to Aboriginal entrepreneurs and to offer programs that will enhance spiritual, mental, emotional and physical health and wellness. NABWC offers services to First Nation, Métis, Status, Non-Status, and Inuit people in Northeastern BC.

To date, the centre has serviced 600 business clients with an average of 10 successful business start-ups per year.

In January 2007 the NABWC’s Board of Directors moved to add wellness programs and services to its’ roster of entrepreneurial services. The board and staff identified the need to offer wellness programming to strengthen and enhance its client’s skills so they would have greater success as entrepreneurs and business owners.

Our wellness services are founded on two concepts: “Healing and Wellness”. “Healing” for many Aboriginal individuals has come to mean recovering from the social impacts of colonization. “Wellness” refers to maintaining and enhancing the health and well-being of individual, families, communities and nations by incorporating a new way of thinking, being and feeling.

Our wellness services are client driven and based on self-determination. We offer a confidential holistic approach to professional development and entrepreneurship by teaching interpersonal and business skills one-to-one Life Coaching.

At NABWC, we understand that one must acknowledge the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects of our clients so they may achieve a stage of wellness. Our programs seek to address these issues holistically through individual and group related methods and are always culturally based and are most often delivered by an Aboriginal facilitator.
